Well, I’m an “old git” at 55yrs of age and fully retired from work. I have been a firearms shooter in one discipline or another for most of my life, starting with air rifles when I was 13yrs of age in the 6yd and 10m target shooting leagues and achieved county level. As the years passed and shift work entered my life, Team sports became difficult as I couldn’t commit to being at all the fixtures. This meant that my shooting became less competitive but continued just for fun, with my shooting small bore rifles and also 12 guage shotguns neither shot competitively though.
During the course of last year I had my first “play” with a recurve bow, only shooting at a distance of 20 yards or so and only on 3 or 4 occasions during the year. This was the first time I had shot a bow and arrow since I was about 10yrs old playing cowboys and Indians in my back garden, however, I enjoyed it immensely.
During the last week, I have been totally transfixed on the Olympics, watching every single arrow that has been shot in both team and individual events. I have decided that it is time I took my interest further so at the next opportunity I will visit my local Archery club which is Long Buckby, Northamptonshire to sign up for the beginner’s course.
